Cub&Co is a Cornwall born independent brand built around specialty coffee, Cornwall coffee shops, timeless lifestyle clothing, and community. You might know us by our former name, No.1 Cubs. Same team, same roots, same bear. We’ve become Cub&Co because it better reflects what we’ve always been building: not just products or shops, but a coastal lifestyle brand that people can take with them, wherever they go.

It all started in 2018 with early morning chats between college friends on the way to rugby training. A simple run of work tees became a website, then a small online clothing brand and Cornwall streetwear range. At the same time, founder Matt fell deep into coffee, learning the craft through barista training while studying Sports Science. The idea formed to bring both passions together under one roof. The bear became the symbol of it all. Youthful, warm, bold, and a little playful. A reminder to follow your curiosity, back yourself, and enjoy the ride.

Cornwall isn’t an aesthetic for us. It’s the foundation. Everything we do is shaped by the coastline and the places that raised us, from Watergate Bay and Mevagissey to the wider Cornish coast. Our aim is to build something that feels unmistakably from here without leaning on clichés or selling Cornwall like a postcard. We live it, and we’re proud of it. The coffee side began with a small van and a few summer events around Cornwall, serving takeaway coffee and learning the craft properly. A pop up at Charlestown Harbour became the turning point. Matt left his job to go all in, and what started as temporary became permanent. Not long after, we were invited to serve coffee at Watergate Bay. We converted the original van and started pouring flat whites out the back by the sea, then upgraded so we could keep serving properly all year round through wild winters, stormy days, and those golden tide in evenings that make Cornwall what it is. Cub&Co has now been part of the Watergate community for five years.

Today, you’ll find us across Cornwall, with each space bringing the same energy in its own way, whether you’re after specialty coffee in Cornwall, a sit in cafe, a takeaway flat white, or a place to browse clothing in person.

In Mevagissey, our main shop is a sit in coffee shop and takeaway coffee spot, and it’s also where you can shop Cub&Co clothing in store. It’s a proper coffee shop near Newquay with a brunch menu, plus a few rails of Cub&Co clothing for customers to browse and buy while they’re in. It’s part coffee stop, part lifestyle space, and it’s become a place people return to for coffee, food, and a bit of Cornwall energy even on a busy day.

At Watergate Bay, we still do what we’re known for. Fast, properly made specialty coffee by the beach, served for locals, surfers, walkers, hotel guests and anyone chasing that post sea fix.
